Jennifer Brown PhD

Author of Snapshots of Richard

​Jennifer Brown PhD,  is a volunteer for the Autism Society of Greater Cincinnati and is a past president of that organization. Additionally, she volunteers for a number of disability groups including the Regional Autism Advisory Council and the Common Threads Network. 

She has a PhD from the University of Cincinnati in Communication Disorders and is a speech-language pathologist with more than twenty years of experience in the field of Autism Spectrum Disorders. 

She retired as the Outreach Coordinator at the Kelly O’Leary Center for Autism Spectrum Disorders at Cincinnati Children’s Hospital, where she was a member of the diagnostic team. Jennifer is the author of the book Snapshots of Richard: Living with Autism and most importantly, she is the parent of an adult son with autism.  ​

​Social Security & SSI for Transition-Age Youth with Disabilities

Public Affairs Specialist Sue Denny will provide an overview of Social Security and Supplemental Security Income, describe the disability application process, how the medical decision is made, and the appeals process. She will also provide information about what happens once benefits are approved, the representative payee program, and working while disabled.  

 About the Presenter:  Sue Denny has been the public affairs specialist at the Social Security Administration in Cincinnati since early 2001. She gives hundreds of presentations a year about Social Security programs and benefits and staffs booths at conferences and other events. She has a special interest in educating families of transition-age youth about disability benefits through Social Security and Supplemental Security Income. Sue serves as the liaison for local professionals and media in the Cincinnati area and is a regular guest on WKRC’s Simply Money, a popular drive-time radio program. Her passion is public affairs. She has a Communication degree from the American University, a Master of Public Administration from the University of Cincinnati, and a graduate Communication Teaching Certificate from Northern Kentucky University.
