The ASD Autism Family Resource Center will be open Tuesday's
through Friday's from 5p.m. to 8p.m. and Saturday's 9a.m. to 4p.m. The Center is FREE to families.
The Front Office
is where Families can come to collect FREE information from Local Organizations that work with children and adults
on the Autism Spectrum as well as the National Autism Organizations. This is also where you get your Free Library Card. We then have
a Computer Lab that is connected to the Internet so you can check out on-line autism support groups and research, and also has
the Writing with Symbols software and Board Maker, that you can use to make picture schedules and symbols. Outside the Computer
Lab we have a Family to Family Message Boards. These are for families to use to post info about needed items, babysitting,
or offer items for sale, or offer babysitting services yourself. etc. We also have a little Kitchenette that has a coffee station/
a sink and a Handicapped Accessible bathroom.
Next we have the Children's Sensory Play room. Inside we
have toys/sensory items, and tv/dvd player so children can relax and socialize while parents are looking in at the library or checking
out the computer lab. We do not have child care, so families will need to keep an eye on their children, but it is very inviting and
child friendly.
The Library has many donated books, cd's, videos, dvd's, computer software, sensory items and learning toys.
Families can come in and check out up to two items each visit. As we get more donated items, the limit will increase.
Our Autism Family
Resource is Free and open to everyone. Please come out and network with other families that live with autism 24/7.
Families
with ASD is a non-profit 501 (c) (3) organization founded by Julia and Gregory Smith in March of 2005. They have two boys;
a 13 year old son with Autism, Epilepsy, and an auto-immune disease that attacked his brain, and a 9 year old son who loves
life! Luke receives IvIg infusions every 3 weeks at Cincinnati Children's for his auto-immune disease which requires him to
spend the night for his 20 hour infusion. He has been receiving IvIg's since April 2007, and is having a great response to
his treatments. Luke has a 9 year old brother, Joel who loves Cub Scouts, helping out his family and helping out at the
Center. Joel was the Tour Guide at yesterday's Open House.
